John Markowsky - An ex-police officer turned Butcher, in his mid-late thirties. John was kicked off of the force because of his temper and sporadic violent streaks. But those days are long behind him. He is still a tough man and still has a temper, but seldom is it shown. He lives a relatively quiet life. John has an estranged wife, Jen, and daughter, Lucy. Lucy is the most important thing in his life, and yet he has trouble relating to her. He only gets to see her on odd weekends and because of his irresponsibility, he is often late to pick her up from Jen's.

Jennifer Markowsky - John's estranged wife, a year younger than him. Jen is an interior designer and devotes most of her time to the upbringing of her daughter. She is somewhat over-protective and always worries about Lucy. Jen has had various long-term boyfriends, trying to find one that would suit her view of what a father should be. None have been good enough in her eyes. She is frustrated by John and what she sees as a lack of commitment to Lucy because of his chronic irresponsibility. A part of her still loves him, but she cannot admit this. She is lonely and the excitement that she used to feel when married to him, she has not found since. At the same time, however, she does not trust him.

Lucy Markowsky - John's and Jen's twelve year olddaughter. She is the center of both of her parents' lives, but John has trouble relating to her and this often makes things awkward between them. At the same time, however, Lucy knows that he loves her and is sometimes frustrated by the way that Jen portrays him.

Trisha Powers - A third string reporter from a hack news agency, Trisha Powers is an extremely motivated, but mediocre newscaster. She has been remanded to following unimportant uninteresting stories which seldom make it onto the show. In response, she is desperate for any story that is at all interesting... and often ends up embellishing them when they are not. She is in her mid twenties or early thirties.

Sylvie - John's next-door neighbor. Sylvie is a woman in her early thirties who has had a crush on John ever since she moved into the building. She is very gaudy and so wants to be a part of the "in crowd." She is out of place in New York and has few friends. She spends her nights prowling the New School and the Learning Annex for men that may or may not talk to her.

VAJ - The leader of the "terrorists." In his early forties, Vaj is a gaunt, serious man... He is robbing the Met both because he needs money and because he perceives this as the opportunity to give the other terrorists better lives- especially Natasha. He has known Natasha for a long time but has never revealed his feelings for her. Although the terrorists wield guns, he has no intentions of having them kill anyone.

Norman - Norman is in his seventies and is one of New York's social elite. An art collector and connoisseur, he also happens to be a famed alcoholic, drinking ever-strongly Lilleth Devereaux - Lilleth is in her late sixties and is another New York socialite. She is extremely classy and was quite a beautiful lady in her prime.

Natasha - The youngest of the terrorists. She has grown up knowing Vaj who she perceives as an older brother. She is excited about the heist and is in it for the money as well as the thrill.

Terrorists - Petak, Ivan, Georg, Katya, Boris. Ivan and Katya are married. The terrorists are Americans (their names will be changed) who don't consider themselves terrorists at all- they are essentially robbing the Metropolitan Museum and taking hostages as a precautionary measure.
