Artistic License is an action packed musical thriller that draws on the influences of the Hollywood action-movie Blockbuster but also addresses the darker side of the violence intrinsic to these movies. John Markowsky is a retired cop, divorced from his wife, Jen and estranged from his twelve year old daughter, Lucy. Twelve years ago he was asked to leave the police force-he did so, and has since opened up a butcher's shop and left his past behind him. On the evening on which the story takes place, John is attending a black tie awards gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to accept an award on behalf of his uncle who is in the hospital.

Before the gala John drops by Jen's house to pick up his daughter for their weekend together. Jen informs him that Lucy is sick and John promises to take her right home. Instead he takes her along to the ball where John and Lucy are surrounded by the New York City art-world elite. Jen, watching television at home, sees John and Lucy as they are interviewed live on the nightly news. Furious, Jen rushes over to the Met. She enters just as the guests are finishing singing "there is nothing quite like art" when suddenly a small group of well armed thieves pull out their weapons and command the guests to keep quiet or die. John has by chance slipped into the bathroom. When he returns, he sees his wife, his daughter and the guests at the mercy of the gun wielding terrorists. John must save his family and defeat the terrorists or be faced with the loss of the only things that he holds dear. He begins to hunt down the villains, and they begin to fall prey to him. As the musical rushes full force towards its climax, John's anger mounts as he becomes more and more ruthless - nothing will stand in his way...
