scored this at the unitarian universalist church annual yard sale. nick says it looks like a religious icon. i'll say this for the unitarians- they have fabulous yard sales. is this a trend or is it just the worcester parrish? my theory is that unitarians, demographically, are educated lefties- it's a church you choose after thinking about it for a while. so that means some pretty good stuff, good records and book and such, but also solid, weird kitchy items, old electronics and excersize stuff, even some sharper image kind of post-yuppie kitch. intelligence and affluence and youth means that caring (small) families oblige thier children, who have no one to hand toys down to. and a developed sense of community means the prices are low, so everyone wins! compare the shakers, who have huge yard sales with collectors (typified by last month's sale featuring a $100 price tag on a 50 year old bottle of moxie). also, the unitarians always have lemonade (not uncommon at other yard sales) and burgers (fairly uncommon) and veggie burgers (unheard of)! for yard sale attitude, unitarians get 5 out of 5 marks.
